Chase Sudano Wrestling: There are some athletes who don’t just participate in a sport; they are forged by it. In the wrestling world, where success demands an ultimate level of discipline, grit, and mental toughness, Chase Sudano stood out as a true warrior. Tragically, the tight-knit wrestling community of New Jersey and the student body at St. Augustine Preparatory School are in deep mourning following the devastating news that Chase passed away on June 16, 2026.
Hailing from Westampton and residing in Southampton Township, New Jersey, Chase was a young man whose fierce competitive fire on the mats was matched by his dedication as a student. To lose someone with so much promise and vitality so suddenly has left an agonizing void across the region.
A Dominant Force on the Mats
To watch Chase step onto the wrestling mat was to watch a technician at work. Competing for the renowned St. Augustine “Hermits” (affectionately known within the wrestling circles as the hammers), Chase established himself early on as a powerhouse.
He climbed through the grueling ranks of youth wrestling—claiming first-place finishes at prestigious tournaments like the Christmas Sparty Folkstyle Individual and the Tyrant Junior Beast. As he transitioned into high school, his dominance only grew. Wrestling as an honorable mention standout at 126 pounds during his sophomore campaign, Chase racked up an impressive 32-12 record, capturing significant wins against elite state competition.
Most recently, Chase had transitioned to the 138-pound weight class, carrying a spectacular recent record of 24-7 into his high school seasons. He wasn’t just a wrestler who eked out close decisions; he was a dynamic bonus-point machine, tallying 13 technical falls and 4 major decisions. When Chase stepped into the circle, his teammates and coaches knew they were guaranteed to see absolute effort and heart.

Brotherhood Beyond the Circle
But any wrestler will tell you that the sport is about so much more than a win-loss record. The bonds forged in a wrestling room—through the grueling weight cuts, the intense practices, and the long weekend tournaments—are deeper than almost any other.
At St. Augustine Prep, Chase was part of a legendary brotherhood. He was a “hammer” in every sense of the word—dependable, fiercely loyal, and a constant source of motivation for his teammates. His coaches relied on his work ethic to set the standard in the room, and his peers looked up to him not just for his technical skill, but for the quiet confidence and humility he carried off the mat.
An Unfinished Match
The sudden departure of a young student-athlete leaves a silence that is incredibly heavy. Chase had so many more tournaments to win, so many more goals to chase, and a bright future ahead of him both academically and athletically.
As the St. Augustine community and the New Jersey wrestling family try to process this devastating reality, they are wrapping their arms around Chase’s family, friends, and teammates. We remember Chase Sudano not for the time that was stolen from him, but for the relentless passion, courage, and excellence he displayed every single time he stepped under the lights.
Rest in peace, Chase. Your legacy as a champion and a brother will never be erased from the mats.
